A Ghanaian medical practitioner has issued a warning to the youth, predicting a looming kidney disease crisis driven not by old age but by the lifestyle choices normalised on social media.
Dr Pertingle delivered the warning in a viral Instagram post, warning against BBL enhancement supplements and skin bleaching creams to energy drinks, shisha, midnight heavy meals, and bedroom performance concoctions.
"In a few years, many of you will be on dialysis machines, not because of old age, but because of YOLO lifestyle and vibes," she said.
She singled out the booming market for body enhancement products, including gummies, pills, oils, and creams marketed for breast, hip and buttocks enlargement.
"That BBL oil cream that you apply on your boobs, butt, hips, all to impress Kwesi. He will still cheat and your kidneys will pay the price.
" That bleaching cream you've been using is not only ruining your skin, it is slowly damaging your kidneys,” she warned.

Dr Pertingle also took aim at eating habits, recreational drug use, and the growing culture of mixing stimulants.
"You eat heavy meals at midnight and go straight to bed, you are inviting hypertension and diabetes. All those cocktails of red pills and energy drinks you've been mixing just to feel high.
" The shisha and weed you've been smoking. Excessive alcohol intake. Your kidneys are drafting their resignation letter," she warned.
Her sharpest words were for men seeking performance enhancement through unregulated products.
"You will still be taking concoction upon concoction just to last longer in bed to impress Akosua. Your kidneys will not last longer and Akosua will still leave you. A wasted investment," she added.
She warned that by the time symptoms become visible, significant damage may already have been done.
"Energy drinks laced with weed, slim teas from unlicensed vendors, by the time you realise, your urine will be as dark as Coke. Your feet, legs and face will be swollen. Your best friend will be the dialysis machine at Korle Bu, 37 Military Hospital, and KATH," she predicted.
Her comments come as the country has made efforts to curb what many have described as a looming crisis of unregulated substances being consumed by many youth.
Recently, the National Youth Authority launched the “Stop Red" campaign with rapper Medikal as its ambassador to encourage the youth to stop the consumption of a street drug known as ‘red.’
