Ghana's senior women's national team, the Black Queens, will be hoping to add a new chapter to their rich Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) history as they continue their quest for a maiden continental crown.

The Black Queens remain one of Africa's most successful women's national teams, having featured in the tournament on 13 occasions since its inception.

Their consistent performances over the years have seen Ghana establish itself as a powerhouse on the continent despite falling short of lifting the trophy.

Ghana's best performances came in 1998, 2002 and 2006 when the Black Queens reached the final but finished as runners-up on all three occasions.

The team has also secured four bronze medals, finishing third in 2000, 2004, 2016 and most recently in 2024, underlining their consistency among Africa's elite women's football nations.

In their remaining appearances, the Black Queens were either eliminated during the group stage or exited at the quarter-final stage, highlighting the competitive nature of the tournament over the years.

Despite the near misses, Ghana's record remains one of the strongest in WAFCON history, with seven top-three finishes from 13 appearances.

Having claimed bronze in the last edition, the team will be determined to go a step further and bring the coveted trophy to Ghana for the first time.
