Dear GhanaWeb,
I am a 31-year-old woman who has been married for nearly five years. My husband is hardworking, intelligent, and a good man. Together, we have two children, though the painful truth is that our second child was fathered by his late father, a secret my husband does not know.
My father-in-law passed away a few months ago at the age of 68. Before his death, we were involved in an affair.
The sad irony is that my husband and his father never had a good relationship; he abandoned my husband during childhood, and they remained estranged until his death.
I never intended for things to turn out this way. Initially, I only wanted to help mend their broken relationship, believing reconciliation could benefit my husband in the future since his father was wealthy.
But during one visit, a conversation took an unexpected turn, and we ended up sleeping together. I regretted it immediately, yet I also found myself drawn to the attention and affection he gave me.
Despite promising myself it would never happen again, I couldn’t stay away. He later gave me GH¢5,000 and asked me to return. That visit led to another encounter, and soon it became routine. Each time I visited, he gave me money, which I invested in my business.
With his support, I bought a car and even helped my husband replace his own vehicle.
My husband often wondered how my business was suddenly thriving, but I always made it seem natural.
Now that his father is gone, I find myself missing him every day. My feelings for my husband have changed, and I’ve even started feeling attracted to older men.
I don’t believe I was in love with my father-in-law, but I don’t understand what kept pulling me back to him. What I do know is that this has damaged my marriage, and I hate what it has done to us.
I still love my husband and desperately want things to return to how they were before his father came into my life.
How do I let go of my late father-in-law and overcome this attraction to older men? I need help.
FG/EB
