Black Stars defender Gideon Mensah is edging closer to a move to German club 1. FC Köln, with advanced negotiations currently taking place between both parties.
According to Sky Sport Germany, personal terms have already been agreed with the Ghana international, leaving the Bundesliga outfit in a strong position to complete the signing.
The 27-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving French Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre, making him an attractive option for clubs seeking an experienced left-back ahead of the new season.
Mensah enjoyed a solid 2025/26 campaign, making 31 appearances in all competitions for Auxerre before becoming available on a free transfer.
The left-back also represented Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring in all four matches as the Black Stars reached the Round of 32 for the first time since 2010 before suffering a narrow defeat to Colombia.
Should the deal be completed, Mensah will switch to continue in German football, having previously spent time with RB Salzburg’s partner club FC Liefering and later featured for Greuther Fürth during a loan spell.
