Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan has criticised the Black Stars’ performance following their elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the display against Colombia as below par.

The Black Stars exited the tournament after losing to the South Americans in the Round of 32, bringing an end to a campaign that saw them reach the knockout stage for the first time in 16 years.

Reacting to the defeat, Gyan questioned Ghana’s attacking approach and felt the team lacked the urgency needed to compete at the highest level.

“Today’s performance was below average, no sense of urgency. We did not have men in the box,” the former Black Stars captain said.

The all-time Ghana leading scorer also praised Colombia for their relentless display, noting that they continued to push forward despite already holding the lead.

“Colombia were ahead but kept fighting to score more. To summarize everything, Colombia deserved the win,” he added.

Asamoah Gyan remains Ghana’s all-time leading scorer and Africa’s top scorer in FIFA World Cup history, making his assessment one that is likely to resonate with many supporters following the Black Stars’ exit.
