Carlos Queiroz is set to remain head coach of the Black Stars beyond the expiration of his current contract, ending speculation over his future following Ghana’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Portuguese tactician, who was appointed in March on a short-term deal until the end of the World Cup, is expected to sign a new two-year contract after convincing the Ghana Football Association with his performances in charge of the national team.

Earlier reports suggested the 73-year-old had decided to step down following Ghana’s round of 32 exit at the World Cup. However, the former Portugal, Iran and Egypt coach is now expected to continue in the role.

Queiroz was handed the job following Otto Addo’s departure, with his future tied to the team’s performances at the World Cup. Under his leadership, the Black Stars reached the knockout stage for the first time since 2010 before suffering a narrow defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32.

During his brief spell in charge, Queiroz oversaw four matches, recording one victory, two draws and one defeat while restoring confidence within the national team after a difficult period.

With a new deal now on the horizon, Queiroz’s immediate focus will shift to ending Ghana’s long wait for continental success, with the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations set to become his primary target.
