Dear GhanaWeb,
I never imagined that the man who stood beside my husband as his best man at our wedding would one day become the man I would fall deeply in love with.
The funny thing is, I knew him before I even met my husband.
We lived in the same area but never spoke. Then my future husband moved into the neighborhood, they became neighbors, and before long, they were inseparable.
They became best friends.
Throughout my relationship with my husband, his best friend never crossed the line or showed any signs that he had feelings for me.
Then came our wedding in 2022. During his best man’s speech, he said something that left everyone surprised, including me.
He said, “I know my friend isn’t making a mistake by marrying this lady. I knew her before he did, and she is just an inch away from perfection. I have been in love with her for a long time, but I couldn’t approach her before my friend did. I’m sorry I never got the chance, but I’m happy for them because she’ll make a great wife.”
I can still remember those words today because of how sincere he sounded. For the first time, I felt truly seen and appreciated.
A few weeks later, he visited our home. While my husband was taking a shower, I asked him if he had really meant everything he said in that speech.
He smiled and said yes, but quickly added that he would never betray his friend and that whatever feelings he once had for me had become nothing more than brotherly love.
Life moved on. But just a year into my marriage, everything changed.
The man I married became abusive. He cheated constantly, and my home stopped feeling like home.
Ironically, the only person who consistently checked on me, made me laugh, encouraged me, and reminded me that I deserved better was my husband’s best friend.
Without planning it, I found myself looking forward to his calls more than I looked forward to seeing my own husband.
Eventually, I couldn’t take the abuse anymore. I filed for divorce two years ago, and surprisingly, my husband didn’t even fight it.
We had no children, and he blamed me for that. Before our divorce was finalized, another woman had already moved into his house.
I focused on healing. The man who had quietly supported me through my darkest moments never pressured me. He simply remained a friend.
Then, last October, he asked me to marry him. I said yes without hesitation because I had seen his character over the years. I know the kind of man he is.
We’re supposed to get married this month. But now there’s a problem. My ex-husband has found out.
Even though he is currently living with another woman who is pregnant for him, he has suddenly started threatening both our lives and doing everything possible to stop our wedding.
We’ve become scared to move around freely because we don’t know what he might do. I don’t want fear to rob me of another chance at happiness.
If you were in my shoes, would you go ahead with the wedding under tight security, or postpone it until the threats stop? What do I do now?
