Medeama SC are leading the race to sign former Berekum Chelsea forward Stephen Amankona after the striker officially parted ways with Egyptian Premier League side Smouha SC.
The 26-year-old is now available on a free transfer and has already attracted interest from a number of clubs, with Ghana Premier League champions Bibiani Gold Stars also monitoring his situation.
However, the Mauve and Yellow have emerged as the frontrunners and are pushing to complete a deal as they continue strengthening their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Amankona joined Smouha after an impressive spell in the Ghana Premier League but is now set for a new challenge following the termination of his stay in Egypt.
The striker is regarded as one of the most prolific Ghanaian forwards in recent years and his availability has generated significant interest from clubs looking to reinforce their attacking options.
Medeama remain keen to add more quality to their squad ahead of their CAF Champions League campaign, with negotiations ongoing as they seek to secure Amankona’s signature in the coming days.
