Afrinova Waste Solutions Limited has launched the Wastle App, a digital waste management platform designed to improve waste collection services and promote effective sanitation across communities.

The platform connects households and businesses with tricycle waste operators to ensure efficient and timely waste disposal, reduce indiscriminate dumping and support efforts to address flooding caused by choked drains.

Speaking at the launch in Accra on Tuesday, the Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Mr John Dumelo, described the initiative as timely, noting that it would complement government efforts to improve sanitation in the country.

He said the introduction of the platform came at a critical time when Ghana was intensifying measures to tackle sanitation and flooding challenges.

Mr Dumelo urged Afrinova Waste Solutions Limited to expand its fleet of tricycles to widen coverage, and appealed to residents to patronise the service to help keep their communities clean.

The Member of Parliament for Madina, Dr Francis-Xavier Sosu, described the initiative as a proactive step towards addressing the persistent problem of indiscriminate waste disposal.

He observed that improper waste disposal often led to choked drains and severe flooding, particularly during the rainy season.

Dr Sosu explained that the application would enable residents to request waste collection services, report blocked drains and facilitate timely interventions to prevent flooding.

He added that good governance was not only about responding to disasters, but also about taking preventive measures to protect lives and property.

The Managing Partner for Operations of Afrinova Waste Solutions Limited, Mr Alex Kwame Donyinah, called for increased adoption of technology-driven solutions to transform waste management, create jobs and support Ghana’s circular economy.

He said the idea behind the App was borne out of the challenges many households faced in accessing reliable waste collection services.

Mr Donyinah noted that poor sanitation continued to impose a heavy economic burden on the country, adding that innovation, partnerships and technology were essential to achieving the vision of making Accra one of Africa’s cleanest cities.

He explained that the platform would allow households, businesses and institutions to request waste collection services, track operations and promote accountability through digital technology.

Mr Donyinah said the company was committed to creating decent employment opportunities for young people, while promoting waste segregation, recycling and environmental sustainability.

He appealed to government, development partners, businesses and communities to support the initiative, stressing that collaboration was key to transforming waste from an environmental challenge into an economic opportunity that would improve public health and create cleaner, safer communities.
