Newly promoted Ghana Premier League side Port City FC have completed the signing of former WAFA SC midfielder and captain Gideon Waja as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The experienced midfielder joins the club after a spell with Hamilton United in Canada, marking his return to the Ghana Premier League.

Waja is no stranger to top-level football, having previously featured for Major League Soccer side Toronto FC and Kenyan giants AFC Leopards before continuing his career in Canada.

His arrival is expected to add quality, leadership and experience to the Port City FC midfield as the club prepares for its maiden campaign in the Ghanaian top flight.

The former WAFA captain built a reputation as one of the league’s dependable midfielders during his time with the Sogakope-based side and will be hoping to make a similar impact with his new club.

Port City FC have been active in the transfer market since securing promotion and will be aiming to assemble a competitive squad capable of maintaining their Premier League status in the upcoming season.

Gideon Waja was part of the Black Galaxies squad that won the WAFU Zone B Championship in 2017.
