Argentina came from behind to defeat England 2-1 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Wednesday, booking their place in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Three Lions looked on course for victory after Anthony Gordon broke the deadlock in the 55th minute, with England controlling large spells of the second half.
However, the defending champions mounted a late comeback, with Enzo Fernández restoring parity in the 85th minute to swing the momentum in Argentina’s favour.
Just minutes later, Lautaro Martínez completed the turnaround, finding the decisive goal to send the Albiceleste into a second consecutive World Cup final.
England pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages but Argentina held firm to preserve their narrow advantage and secure another famous victory on the global stage.
The result sends Lionel Scaloni’s men into Sunday’s final against Spain at MetLife Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 19:00 GMT, as Argentina bid to successfully defend the FIFA World Cup title they won in Qatar four years ago.
