Morocco secured a dominant 3-0 victory over Canada at NRG Stadium to book their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, becoming the first team to reach the last eight of the tournament.

The Atlas Lions were made to work hard in the opening half as Canada created several promising chances, but goalkeeper Yassine Bono produced a series of outstanding saves to keep the North Africans in the game.

After surviving the early pressure, Morocco took control of the contest shortly after the restart when Girona midfielder Azzedine Ounahi broke the deadlock in the 50th minute with a low drive from the edge of the box in a well-worked goal.

Canada pushed forward in search of an equaliser but were punished again as Ounahi grabbed his second goal of the night in the 82nd minute to put the result beyond doubt.

Substitute Soufiane Rahimi completed the scoring late in the match, capping off an impressive second-half display from Walid Regragui’s side.

The victory sends Morocco into the World Cup quarter-finals for the second consecutive tournament, underlining their status as one of the competition’s strongest teams.

The Atlas Lions will now await the winner of the Round of 16 clash between France and Paraguay as they continue their quest for another historic run on the world stage.
