Seth Panwum Boyoyo, spokesperson for the NPP Sports Committee, has criticised the Sports Minister’s response to Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, urging him to focus on accountability and sports development instead of defending the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

In a statement, Boyoyo argued that the Black Stars’ Round of 32 finish should not be portrayed as a major success, insisting the team’s performance failed to meet national expectations. He said Ghana’s campaign was not significantly better than previous World Cup appearances and called for a transparent review of the tournament.

Boyoyo referenced the Commission of Inquiry established after the 2014 FIFA World Cup as an example of responsible governance, stressing that public investment in the national team must be justified.

He also questioned whether the substantial resources spent on the Black Stars delivered value for money and urged the Minister to prioritise reforms while addressing the needs of other sporting disciplines facing inadequate funding and infrastructure.
