Dear GhanaWeb,
I met the most amazing woman a few months ago. From the very beginning, everything felt right. She was kind, caring, respectful, and she made me believe I had finally found the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.
As our relationship grew, I became certain she was the one. I had already started making plans to propose. I even reached out to one of my close friends to help me organize a surprise proposal because I wanted the moment to be special.
Everything changed the day I introduced her to him.
After we met, my friend pulled me aside and asked if I really knew the woman I was planning to marry. I laughed and told him I knew everything that mattered. That was when he told me she had once been in prison.
I felt like the ground had disappeared beneath my feet.
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. My heart was racing because this was something she had never mentioned to me. Instead of believing my friend immediately, I decided to ask her myself.
When I confronted her, she didn't deny it. She admitted that she had been to prison but said she was too afraid to tell me because she thought I would leave her the moment I found out.
She then explained that she never committed the crime she was accused of. According to her, she was framed, arrested, and later released after the real truth came out and it became clear she was innocent.
As she spoke, I could see the pain in her eyes. It seemed like she had been carrying that burden for a long time. Now my mind is all over the place.
Part of me believes everyone deserves a second chance, especially if they were innocent.
Another part of me is deeply hurt that she allowed our relationship to get this serious without telling me something so important about her past.
I still love her. My feelings for her haven't disappeared overnight. But I can't stop wondering what else she might have kept from me simply because she was afraid of losing me.
I was days away from asking her to be my wife. Now, instead of planning a proposal, I'm questioning everything.
Am I overreacting because of her past?
If you were in my shoes, would you still marry her? I need your suggestions, please!
